Middle of a workday. The whole team is armed. The Middle of a workday. The whole team is armed. The seminary president is army-crawling under a table.

That's what an all-out Nerf battle looks like on Mark Wessner's team! He doesn't even file it under humor, but everyone's laughing, and he says two things happen. In the moment, stress just drops. Over time, it sets the tone that everyone's in this together.

That second one is bigger than it sounds. When you're the senior leader, people get careful about what they say to you. It's a lot easier to be honest with someone who just got shot with a foam dart.

I've done cocaine. I've been in prison. I have a tattoo.

Mark Wessner opened his candidacy sermon with that, in front of a congregation that had never met him. Then he told them he doesn't have a tattoo and just kept going. They hired him anyway.

Mark is now President of MB Seminary and founder of Leading Well, and this conversation covers a lot of ground: prison chaplaincy, the four languages every leader speaks in, and the evaluation that told him to be more presidential.

And yes, he explains the cocaine and it's not what you think 👀

That’s how Kevin Dias sold a new marketing idea to his team: not as the guru with all the answers, but as a guy willing to try, fail loudly, and own the punchline.

It’s his trademark move—in his book, he opens with a few solid jabs at his own expense. If you want to debate his credibility, he gets it out of the way up front, so you can get on with the real stuff.

Self-deprecation isn’t about lacking confidence. It’s about having enough of it to leave the armor at home.

The whole conversation with Kevin is live wherever you grab your podcasts. If you crack a smile (or a snort), a quick review helps more listeners find us—and keeps the jokes coming.
A deal falls through at 10 a.m., and by 10:04 some A deal falls through at 10 a.m., and by 10:04 someone jokes about it in the group chat. Somebody closes one at 2 p.m., and it gets a thumbs-up.

Kevin Dias zeroes in on this difference. Humor helps pull startup teams through tough times; that’s why it matters. But if we only joke about the setbacks, we risk making negativity the default vibe instead of the exception.

His fix isn't less humor. It's spending as much comedic energy on the wins as you do on the losses.

Kevin Dias runs a fully remote software company from Japan, and he'll tell you straight up that he isn't the funny one. He's more the Michael Scott of his own team 👀, funny in his own head. So he built the next best thing: a room where everybody else gets to be funny.

We got into jokes flying in the Zoom chat during all-hands, the line between laughing at a situation and laughing at a customer, and the annual hackathon where the whole team gets two days, a prompt, and actual trophies.

In-Laws and Outlaws debuting February 16, 2026

In-Laws and Outlaws is Kate Davis at her most unfiltered. Aging without grace, raising three kids, surviving a 30-year marriage, cohabiting with her mother-in-law, and a rescue dog who didn’t sign up for any of it. It’s sharp, honest and a reminder that peace was never on the table.

Second Best Mom was a labor of love. I wrote one story a month (with 3 kids who has time) for over a decade about raising them. From funny stories to practical techniques I used to keep sane during the sleepless nights whether from a fussy baby or foolish teen.

This is my first comedy album with Howl & Roar Record Label and I am very proud of that. It encompasses a body of work that took me over 15 years to write which by the way is the same amount of time it took me to figure out how to open the plastic bags at the supermarket without licking my fingers.

This album went to #1 on iTunes. It was made at the height of the Pandemic behind plexiglass at 50% capacity. It is a true moment in time and a testament of the power of laughter.
